Belltown Farms Background

Belltown Farms was founded in 2019 as a fund manager focused on the opportunity for regenerative agriculture in the US.  Belltown Farms Fund 1 began acquiring land in 2019 and closed its first fund in 2021 at $125m including co-investment vehicles.  The fund acquires prime US farmland, converts it to organic and farms it regeneratively. The fund is focused on row crop and small grain production, and currently owns and operates 25,000 acres across Illinois, Michigan, Nebraska, Texas, and New York. Belltown Farms aims to grow to $1bn in funds under management and 100,000+ acres by 2030.

Investment Director

Belltown Farms is recruiting an investment director, to work on the farmland acquisition team.

Locationheadquarters are in Philadelphia, PA. Position location is flexible. Some travel expected.

Compensation: competitive salary and performance related bonus, plus benefits

The role will include:

  • Financial Analysis
    • Financial modelling of farmland acquisitions, with excellent excel kills, accounting knowledge, and accuracy
    • Ability to reflect real life situations in reasonable financial assumptions
    • Commercial judgement and prioritisation of risks, scenarios, and outcomes for investors
  • Transaction Management
    • Origination of new acquisition opportunities
    • Negotiation and agreement of heads of terms for land acquisition
    • Effective management of internal and external due diligence, to test key risks
    • Negotiation of purchase documentation
    • Process management, with clear communication and organised and structured approach
    • Effective handover of new acquisitions to farming operations team
  • Financing Process
    • Equity: Manage two phase investment committee process, with clear understanding and communication of risks and returns, including drafting detailed investment committee papers
    • Debt: Manage raising of debt facilities for land acquisition, equipment financing, and working capital facilities

The ideal candidate will have some or all of the following experience:

  • 4+ years working in mergers and acquisitions, private equity, strategy consulting or finance
  • Ability to work well with a diverse team
  • Highly motivated, analytical, clear communicator
  • Familiarity with real estate, infrastructure, or farmland financing
  • Enthusiasm for sustainability
